PAROXYSMAL AURICULAR FIBRILLATION COMPLICATING METRAZOL SHOCK THERAPY

1 The psychiatric division and electrocardiographic service of Eloise Hospital.

A case of paroxsmal auricular fibrillation is presented. The arrhythmia persisted for five hours following the initial injection of metrazol which resulted in a strong epileptiform seizure. The various possible mechanisms are discussed and particular emphasis is laid upon the possibility of its "central" reflex origin.
